As you probably know, the works on the new Greygarth started in July last year with the demolition of the old Brookfield site. By October the steel frame was already up. It was like a giant Meccano set. It was a joy to see the skill of the workers who put it up, with every piece fitting in with exact precision.
The empty building siteHalf of the Annexe has gone. It will be rebuilt once it’s linked to the main house. The new built part of the project will be done in yellow brick to match the existing brick in Greygarth Hall. Some walls are already up, as are most of the partitions on the basement and the first floor.
So far the project is on schedule in terms of costs and time. There will be some delay arising from the inclement weather which has kept the project under a 10inch thick blanket of snow. It made the site look very pretty but did no good to the project schedule. Still, it is hoped that the time lost will be made up in the next few months so that we can open up the first phase of the project (building the extension to the Hall and rebuilding the Annexe) by July this year.
Steel frame and basement. On the financial front there is also news. We have started to draw on the loan which was secured at very good rates. The challenge is now to fundraise to be able to repay it over the agreed period of 20 years. Any help on this front, however, small, will be greatly appreciated.
